Work space and first list of materials

       Materials:

Bamboo

Propane torch

Big screw driver

Old kitchen knife

Hammer

   The first thing you need to do is get some bamboo.  I would recommend goldenwitch.com and ask for their bamboo sampler pack.  This is where I get all my bamboo.   Bellinger is another source of bamboo.  I have not used them for bamboo but love their other stuff.  The propane torch and other stuff you can get at Wal-Mart or any other hardware store. 

  For workspace you are going to want to do the first steps out side.  I do not recommend flaming cane in doors at all.  Most of the other steps of the process can be done in doors.  You do not need a lot of work space.  Think about the size of a Ironing board.  That is the minimum amount of space you will need to do the building process.  More would be great but I have known people that used a close in their apartment building to build rods.  I do quit a few things at the kitchen table.  You may want to talk with the wife first as I am not responsible for any blows to the head from a frying pan.  So gather up some bamboo you want at least 1 culm and I will see you next week and we will start with the process.
